Namaste, We just arrived in Sindoupalshowk after four shows in Dolaka. Kids and adults seem well and happy to meet us, so many warm welcomes with flower necklaces and scarves. We are now being well looked after by Plan Nepal. Indira and her team are driving us to each place and tonight we’re in a hotel with a nice loo and a beautiful view.

Driving is quite precarious. Last night’s rain brought more land slides. The occasional rocks in the middle of the road are smoothly avoided by our driver. The broken houses are impressive, especially the old stone one just above the road that look ready to topple over in the next after shock.

Corrugated iron, bamboo, wood, brise blocks, tarpaulins and tents are being used to create shelter. Colourful tarpaulins from all over the world can be seen spread over the mountains far away : USAID, UNICEF, Save the Children, China, British Aid, South Africa Aid and many others.

The Nepalese people seem so positive and friendly in such a difficult situation. It’s a busy time of year with the rice planting, corn harvesting, fruit picking, clearing up, carrying rocks and building . People of all ages, men, women and children are working hard. School is off but many extra classes are still continuing.

The feeling that another quake or after shock could come at any moment is ever present and people talk about this. We can see problems with young people who have lost their family turning to drink. I admire all the people working to help improve the situation. Education, health, hygiene, construction and psycolological help are all part of their program.

For me our show in Sumandratar, Newakot was the most poingnant. Creating an event that brings the whole village together Where they can share and be together and laugh together.

Namaste, Rachel
